The reasons why Man city are playing not up to par this season unlike last season

Manchester City has been slacking this season compared to last season. Last season they lost a total of 4 games, this season isn’t over yet and they already have 6 losses with 12 more games to play. All of their games end up being close, normally being a 2 point game even against teams that are way lower than them on the standings. The reason for this is because they can’t finish.
They simply just can’t finish. They have the most passes this season with a whopping 17,487 total so far, but they just play too inconsistent. Against one team they’ll win 6-1 and against one lower on the standings they’ll only win 2-0. Even though they are still winning their games in both situations, it shows they don’t play consistent enough to be in first place and that’s why they are behind Liverpool by 22 points. The stats of the most goals even goes to Manchester City with 67 right now, but in the 6 games they have lost, they are still scoring goals but just getting outplayed.
Against Wolves, an 8th place team, they lost 3-2. I know that doesn’t sound like a big deal but last years Manchester City would’ve won that game. Last season Man City beat Wolves 3-0 with easily outplaying the opposing team.
In the 2018/2019 season, Manchester City would dominate low skill level teams and do well against higher level teams. This season they are just doing well against all teams, not very much domination from a team that won the last 2 seasons in a row. They no longer have an efficient plan to score goals.
Their goals for the past seasons were to bring the ball from the defenders, get it to the midfielders and make long runs on the wing. This season the other teams know what their plans are so they play amazing defense to their playstyle and get less goals scored on themselves. The reason they are still in second with their game plan not working as effectively is because they have some of the best players in the whole league or even in the whole world. They have the best goal scorers in the league such as Sergio Aguero Who currently has 16 goals, Raheem Sterling with 11, and Gabriel Jesus with 9. They also have the best playmakers in the league with Kevin De Bruyne having 16 assists and Riyad Mahrez with 9.
Now for having some of the best players in the world and the best players in the league, they should be in first, right? That’s how it works? No, they aren’t in first because of their game plans. If they would switch up their plans, maybe switch their formations to 2 up top instead of 1 up top and 2 wingers, they would play much better considering they can have Aguero and Gabriel Jesus up at the top scoring goals and then having De Bruyne just behind them in center attacking midfield giving them scoring chances.
Currently they are using a 4-3-3 formation but I think if they changed their plans with a 4-1-2-1-2 formation, they could play more central while the defenders are expecting long runs on the wings. They could also have more of their star players on the field at one time rather than keeping them on the bench because the formation doesn’t fit their position.
